Cartway Entry

This access from Teague Town Road is the only way in with a vehicle. The road goes across multiple land-owner's parcels and, ultimately, all the way to the water. It is not a right-of-way but has been ruled a cartway in litigation decades ago. The distinctions are minimal in terms of accessing property that is land-locked but monumental in other ways. Parts of the road were surely used in the early 1800's to access Daniel Wittenberg's flax mill on Rock Creek. There is reference to "Oil Mill Road" on old deeds. Flaxseed was used for many things. Its oil was used, among other things, for lamps. Whale Oil was in short supply back then here on the river.
